His Achievements

A

In regards to the nation, society and the Church:

1- Re-opening the Maronite College in Rome.

2- Securing a Maronite Church in Paris with financial sponsorship of eight students by the French Government.

3- Founding a Maronite Eparchy in Egypt.

4- Purchasing a Maronite house in Jerusalem.

5- Sending his delegates to assist Lebanese migrants in foreign lands.

6- Making parishes flourish during his patriarchate.

7- Launching the building of twenty-two churches in Lebanon.

8- Building a summer residence for the Patriarchate in Diman.

8- Promoting annual spiritual retreats for the bishops at Bkerki.

9- Promoting the formation of priests, sending them to complete studies in Rome and Paris. He visited seminarians to assess their vocation, education and virtues.

10- Raising the Statue of Our Lady of Lebanon on the summit of Harissa on 3rd May, 1908, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.

11- Making annual pastoral visits to the parishes, in particular to those in secluded villages.

12- Providing irrigation for the fields, particularly around Bkerki.

13- Planting olive and mulberry trees on all the patriarchal estates.

14- Founding the Congregation of the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family in 1895.

15- Drawing on the Patriarchal treasury in Bkerki to help the poor and getting the monasteries to do likewise during the famine of the 1914-1918 war.

16- Heading a Lebanese delegation to Versailles in 1919 to obtain independence for Lebanon.

17- Solemnizing by his presence General Gouraud’s declaration of the Independence of Greater Lebanon in September 1920.
