The Father Founder wrote in one of his letters to the Sisters, referring to Saint Paul’s letter, “I am confident of this, that the One who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil 1:6).
This was now twenty-five years after the Foundation of the Congregation, and there were seventeen institutions and over one hundred sisters.
The missions had expanded with seventy in Lebanon and eight in Syria. All these missions and the Congregation was not yet forty years old!
Soon after, the Congregation expanded its ministry, sending sisters to study overseas while continuing to develop. A mission was opened in Australia in response to the call of the Maronite community there.
The Congregation continued its work of establishing a humanitarian society and increasing the number of its missions despite the war of 1914-1918 that scourged Lebanon, destroying numerous institutions and expelling the sisters.
After the war, filled with great hope, the Congregation rose up again and continued its ministry, looking forward to its centenary.
The Congregation celebrated its first centenary with in mind the words of its Father Founder who said: “We thank God for his Fatherly Providence for the Congregation from its beginning till now, so that it has grown and been strengthened, and undertaken good works, and benefitted from its spiritual and daily practices, and seen its name recognized and praised among people”.
With the Centenary Celebration and the start of a new century of action, a new phase opened that involved the following:
First, a true commitment and renewal of the root principles and charisma of the Founders, leading to the publication of the Congregation’s spirituality and Constitution.
Second, listening to the needs and demands of today’s society, resulting in an expansion and deepening of the mission.
Thirdly, a new relationship with the laity to deepen their spirituality on the basis of that of the Congregation of the Holy Family.
